a lot of fat

I bought a Spanish ham and when I cut it open I saw it had a lot of fat. Is that normal?

If it's pata negra it's normal to have 1 or 2 cm of fat on the sides. You usually find streaks in the meat 1-5 mm wide, more or less.
You don't eat the outer fat (more yellowish) but the white or pinkish fat is very good.
That's what gives Iberian ham most of its flavor.
There's almost no fat in a serrano ham that's not pata negra.
